Offering memberships
A membership lets your regulars pay you every month instead of buying a ticket every time they come out. In return, they get free check-ins at your door, free tickets to the events you choose, or both.
Memberships work on their own, so you don't need to sell tickets on Jambo to offer one. If you do, you can let members claim free tickets to your events (see the Memberships and ticket types guide).
Why offer a membership?
- Steady income. Members are billed every month automatically, whether or not you have an event that week.
- A reason to come back. Regulars who already paid for the month have a reason to pick your place.
- You control the value. You decide how many free check-ins members get, and which of your events include a free ticket.
Before you start
Your organization needs to finish setting up payouts before anyone can join a membership. You can create memberships first, but people trying to join will see "This host can't accept memberships right now." until your payouts are ready.
You're ready once the getting-started checklist shows Ready to sell next to Set up payouts. See the Setting up payouts guide.
Both Owners and Members of your organization can create and manage memberships.
Creating a membership
- In the Jambo Dash, click Memberships in the sidebar under Organization
- Click New
- Fill in the fields described below
- Click Create
You can create as many memberships as you like, for example a cheaper one for door entry and a pricier one that includes event tickets.
Name and description
- Name: what people see when they join, like "Monthly Membership" or "VIP Club". Up to 80 characters.
- Description: an optional summary of what members get. Up to 500 characters. Spell out the perks here, since this is what people read before they sign up.
Price
Price is what your organization receives each month, at least $1.00.
Jambo's service fee is added on top of your price for the member, the same way it is for tickets: 7% of your price plus $1.79. Sales tax for the member's location is added on top of that.
For example, if you set the price to $20.00, the member pays $23.19 a month plus sales tax:
- Your price: $20.00
- 7% of $20 is $1.40
- Plus $1.79
You receive the full $20.00. For how you're paid, see the How payouts work guide.
Free scans
Free scans and Per set how many times a member can be checked in at your door during each day, week, or month. For example, 2 per week lets a member in twice a week.
Every membership includes at least one free scan per period. Once a member has used them all, your door staff see No scans left when they scan the member's code.
Free tickets that members claim to your events don't use up their free scans. See the Memberships and ticket types guide.
Shown on host pages
Shown on host pages (optional) picks which of your hosts and venues offer the membership:
- The membership appears on those hosts' pages in the Jambo app and on the web, with a way to join.
- Members can be checked in with their membership at those hosts' doors.
People can only join a membership from a host page. Until you pick at least one host, nobody can find or join it.
What members see
On a host's page, people see each membership you offer with its name, description, monthly price, and free scans. They join with a card in the Jambo app or on the web, and they're billed again every month until they cancel.
Each member gets a membership code in the Jambo app. Your door staff scan it to check them in (see Checking members in at the door below).
Members can cancel any time from the app or the web. Their membership keeps working until the end of the month they already paid for, then stops renewing.
Managing your memberships
The Memberships page lists every membership with its Name, Price (per month), Free scans, the number of Hosts it's shown on, and its Status: Active or Archived.
Open the actions menu next to a membership to Edit it, see its Members, or Archive it.
Editing a membership
Click Edit, make your changes, and click Save.
- Price: a new price only applies to people who join after the change. Existing members keep paying the price they joined at, and you keep receiving it, until they cancel.
- Name, Description, Free scans, and Per: changes apply to everyone right away, including existing members.
- Shown on host pages: changes apply right away. If you remove a host, existing members can no longer be checked in with their membership at that host's door.
Archiving a membership
Archive a membership when you want to stop offering it.
- Open the actions menu next to it and choose Archive
- Click Archive to confirm
An archived membership disappears from your host pages, so nobody new can join. Existing members keep their membership, keep getting billed each month, and can still be checked in at your door and claim free tickets.
To offer it again, open the actions menu and choose Restore.
Archiving doesn't cancel anyone's membership. To end a member's membership, cancel it from the members list.
Viewing your members
Choose Members from a membership's actions menu to see everyone who has joined it. Each member is shown with their Jambo username, their Status, and the date they joined under Since.
- Active: their membership is paid up and working.
- Canceling: they (or you) canceled it. It keeps working until the end of the month they paid for, then ends.
- Past Due: their latest monthly payment didn't go through. Their membership can't be used at the door or for free tickets until it's paid.
- Incomplete: they started joining but their first payment hasn't gone through.
- Canceled: the membership has ended.
Canceling a member's membership
- In the members list, click Cancel next to the member
- Click Cancel membership to confirm
Their membership stops renewing and ends at the end of the month they already paid for. It isn't refunded, and it can't be ended early.
Checking members in at the door
Members are checked in with the Jambo app, just like tickets. Your staff need to be added as ticket scanners on a host that the membership is shown on. Scanners added only to a single event can't check in members. To add scanners, see the Scanning tickets guide.
When a scanner opens the Scanner in the Jambo app, each host where they can check in members is listed under Memberships with Verify memberships. Tap it to check in members without picking an event.
If they open an event from the Scanner screen instead, and the event's host or venue offers a membership, that screen accepts both tickets and member codes. The top of the screen says Tickets & Memberships.
The scanner opened from an event's page (the ⋮ icon, then Scan Tickets) only accepts tickets. If a member's code shows "That's a membership, and this door isn't set up to accept them.", go back and open the event or host from the Scanner screen on your profile.
When they scan a member's code, they see one of these:
- Member (green): the membership is valid. The screen shows how many free scans the member has left this period. Let them in!
- No scans left (orange): the membership is valid, but the member has used all of their free scans for this period.
- Not valid (red): the membership can't be used here. The reason is shown underneath, for example Not honored here (the membership isn't shown on this host) or Membership inactive (it's past due or has ended).
Free tickets that members claim to your events are regular tickets, and they're scanned like any other ticket.
