Setting up ticket types
Ticket types are the options people choose from when they get tickets to your event, like General Admission, VIP, or Early Bird. Each ticket type has its own price, quantity, and sale window, so you can run several at once.
You manage ticket types on your event's Ticketing tab in the Jambo Dash.
To charge for tickets, your organization needs to finish setting up payouts first. Until then, you can still create free tickets. Paid tickets show Payouts Required in the Dash and are hidden from buyers until payouts are ready.
Creating a ticket type
- Open your event in the Jambo Dash and go to the Ticketing tab
- Click Create your first ticket (or New Ticket Type if the event already has tickets)
- Fill in the sections described below
- Click Create
You can create ticket types while your event is still a draft. Nobody can buy them until you publish the event, and until then they show Not On Sale in the Dash.
Basics
- Name: what buyers see, like "General Admission" or "Table for 4". Up to 50 characters.
- Short Description: an optional line shown under the name when people pick tickets. Use it to say what's included, like "Includes one drink" or "Entry before 10pm". Up to 100 characters.
Pricing
- Price: what each ticket costs. Set it to 0 for a free ticket, such as an RSVP or a free-entry list.
Jambo's service fee and any sales tax are added on top of your price at checkout. To learn what buyers pay and what you earn, see the Fees and pricing guide.
Promoter Offer
Paid ticket types can offer promoters a commission for each ticket they help sell. Click Set offer and enter the Offer per ticket. See the Promoter offers guide.
Pay Splits
Paid ticket types can automatically send part of each sale to other organizations, like a co-host, artist, or venue. Click Add a split to set one up. See the Pay splits guide.
Availability
Availability Type controls whether people can see and buy this ticket type:
- Open: people can see and buy it.
- Closed: people can still see it, but it's grayed out and can't be bought. Use this when you want people to know a ticket existed, like a sold-through Early Bird tier.
- Hidden: it doesn't show up for buyers at all. Use this for tickets you only hand out yourself, like a guest list you fill with complimentary tickets, or a bonus ticket that comes with another ticket type.
Availability Start is when sales open. Leave it blank to start selling as soon as the event is published. Set a date and time to build hype before tickets drop. Until then, buyers see the ticket as Not Open Yet.
Availability End is when sales stop:
- Event Start (the default): sales stop when your event begins. This works well for most events.
- Event End: sales stay open until the event is over. Use this if people can still buy at the door or show up late.
- Custom Date & Time: sales stop at a time you choose. Use this for tiered pricing, like an Early Bird ticket that ends a week before the event.
No matter which option you pick, tickets can never be bought after the event ends.
Dates and times use your event's time zone.
Total Availability is how many tickets of this type can be issued, up to 10,000. Leave it blank for unlimited. Once they're all gone, buyers see Sold Out.
Complimentary and bonus tickets count toward a ticket type's total, just like purchased ones.
Advanced
Click Advanced to expand these options:
- Scannable (on by default): turn this off for "bundle" tickets that only exist to give people other tickets through bonuses. Tickets that aren't scannable don't show up on the attendee's phone, so they won't be confused about which code to show at the door.
- Groupable (on by default): lets someone with several tickets show one code for their whole group at the door. Turn it off if each person must be scanned separately. To learn how group codes work, see the Scanning tickets guide.
How many tickets can each person get?
Each person can hold up to 100 tickets for a single event. There's no separate per-order limit you can set for each ticket type. Buyers also can't pick more tickets than are left.
What attendees see
When people get tickets in the Jambo app or on the web, each ticket type shows its name, price (or Free), and short description, in the same order as your list in the Dash.
Ticket types that can't be bought right now are grayed out with a label:
- Not Open Yet: the sale hasn't started.
- Sold Out: the total availability has been reached.
- Closed: the ticket type is set to Closed, or its sale window has ended.
Hidden ticket types don't appear at all.
Managing your ticket types
The Ticketing tab lists every ticket type with its:
- Status: one of Available, Sold Out, Opens (with the date sales start), Ended (with the date sales ended), Hidden, Closed, Not On Sale (draft event), or Payouts Required
- Price
- Sold: how many tickets have been issued, out of the total (or Unlimited)
- Revenue: the ticket's current price multiplied by the number sold. This is a quick estimate. For your actual earnings, check the event's Overview tab.
Badges next to the name show when a ticket type has a promoter offer, pay splits, or bonuses.
Opening, closing, or hiding a ticket type
To quickly change whether a ticket type is on sale, click its status and choose Open, Closed, or Hidden. The change takes effect right away.
Editing a ticket type
- Click the actions menu on the ticket type's row
- Click Edit
- Make your changes and click Save
Pricing or availability changes won't apply to tickets that have already been sold. For example, if you raise the price, people who already bought keep the price they paid.
Duplicating a ticket type
To create a similar ticket type, like a second price tier, click the actions menu on a ticket type and choose Duplicate. This opens a new ticket type with the same settings, including its promoter offer and pay splits. Adjust what you need and click Create. The original's bonuses are copied over too.
Copying ticket types to another event
To reuse ticket types for a new event, duplicate the whole event. On the event's page, open the actions menu at the top right and click Duplicate. The new event starts as a draft with the same ticket types, including their promoter offers, pay splits, and bonuses.
Reordering ticket types
Drag ticket types up or down in the list to change their order. Buyers see them in the same order, so put your most popular option first.
Removing a ticket type
You can't delete a ticket type. To stop selling one, set it to Hidden (to remove it from view) or Closed (to keep it visible but unavailable).
After the event
About three days after your event ends, it's finalized and shows a Finalized badge. After that, ticket types can no longer be created, edited, or reordered.
