Creating an event
Every event on Jambo starts as a draft in the Jambo Dash. You fill in the details, set up tickets, and publish it when you're ready. Nobody else can see a draft, so take your time.
Before you create an event, your organization needs at least one host. The host is the name attendees see as the organizer. See the Creating a host guide.
Already selling on Eventbrite? From an empty Events page, click Import from Eventbrite to bring in your upcoming events with their ticket types and prices. Imported events land as drafts too.
Your events list
Click Events in the Dash sidebar to see every event your organization runs.
- Drafts have a Draft label next to their name, and private events show (Private).
- The Venue column says Same as host when the host is also the venue.
- Use Search events... to find an event by its name or host.
- Use the From and To dates to change which events are listed. By default you'll see events starting from one month ago.
- Switch between List and Calendar to see your events laid out by date.
Create an event
- Go to Events and click New
- Fill out the event details (each field is explained below)
- Click Save Changes
Your event is saved as a draft and the Dash takes you to its page. From there, set up tickets on the Ticketing tab, then publish it. See the Publishing and sharing an event guide.
Name
What your event is called, up to 50 characters. Keep it short and recognizable, like "Wine-down Wednesday". This is the headline everywhere your event appears.
Where is it?
The place where the event happens. Attendees get the address, a map and directions from this.
Start typing the venue's name or address. You can pick:
- One of your organization's venues
- A place from Google Maps, listed under Add from Google Maps. Jambo creates a page for it automatically.
- Create, to set up a brand new venue yourself
The venue must have an address, because it's also how Jambo knows the event's timezone.
Who is putting it on?
The host: the name attendees see as the organizer, and the page the event shows up on.
Most events are a place putting on its own event, so by default the venue you picked is also the host. If someone else is hosting, such as a DJ, promoter or touring act, click Someone else is hosting and choose one of your hosts. To switch back, click The venue is hosting this.
You can hold your event at any venue, but the host must belong to your organization. That stops anyone from publishing events under a name that isn't theirs. If you pick a venue that's run by another organization, the Dash asks you to choose one of your own hosts instead.
If you pick a venue that nobody runs on Jambo yet and it's your business, click Claim it. Your organization takes it over and it can host the event itself.
Start Date / Time and End Date / Time
When your event begins and ends. Times are always local to the venue's timezone, no matter where you are when you fill out the form.
- The start date can be any day from today up to one year out.
- When you pick a start time, the end time moves with it and keeps the same length. If there's no end time yet, it's set to one hour after the start.
- The end must be after the start. The event's length is shown under the end time.
Description
Tell people what to expect, up to 3,000 characters. Mention the lineup, dress code, age policy, parking, or anything else that would help someone decide to come.
Private
Check Private to make the event accessible only through a direct link. A private event won't show up in search results or on public pages, such as your host page. Anyone you send the link to can still open it.
Use this for invite-only parties, members' nights, or private bookings. In the Jambo app, attendees of a private event tap Going instead of Interested.
Cover Image
Every event needs a cover image. It's the first thing people see when browsing.
- Click the image box
- On the Upload tab, drop an image or click to select one. You can also paste a link to an image in Image URL and press Enter.
- Crop the image. Cover images use a 4:3 shape.
- Click Upload
PNG, JPEG and WebP images are supported.
Don't have an image? Open the Library tab to choose from Jambo's image library. Or, once you've filled in the name and description, click the magic wand button in the corner of the image box. Jambo will pick a library image that matches your event.
Editing an event
- Open the event and go to the Details tab. You can also click the pencil icon on the Overview tab.
- Make your changes
- Click Save Changes
Click Reset to throw away changes you haven't saved yet.
You can edit an event before and after it's published. Changes show up for attendees right away.
If you change the start time, any scheduled messages that are timed relative to the start, including the automatic reminders, move with it. See the Messaging attendees guide.
Once an event is Finalized, about 3 days after it ends, it can no longer be edited. See the Publishing and sharing an event guide.
Duplicating an event
Running the same night every week? Duplicate it instead of starting from scratch.
- Open the event you want to copy
- Click the ⋮ actions menu at the top right and choose Duplicate
- Change the date and anything else that's different
- Click Save Changes
The new event is saved as a separate draft. Along with the details, it copies:
- All of the event's ticket types, with their ticket bonuses and pay splits
- Your scheduled messages. Messages timed relative to the start are moved to the new date. Any message whose time would already have passed is left out.
The duplicate is a draft. Remember to publish it when you're ready.
The event page
Each event in the Dash has these tabs:
- Overview: a summary of the event, ticket sales and earnings. See the Event overview guide.
- Details: the event form described above.
- Ticketing: ticket types, prices, complimentary tickets and ticket scanners. See the Scanning tickets guide for scanners.
- Messaging: push notifications and text messages to attendees and staff. See the Messaging attendees guide.
- Attendees: everyone who's interested or has a ticket.
- Posts: photo and text updates on the event's activity feed. See the Event posts guide.
The other tabs open once the event has been saved.
