Some venues and organizers offer memberships on Jambo. A membership is a monthly plan with a host: you pay once a month, and in return you get perks like checking in at the door and free tickets to certain events.

Each membership is set up by the host, so what it includes is up to them. Every membership shows:

- **Its name and description**, written by the host, explaining the perks.
- **Its monthly price**, which includes Jambo's service fee. Sales tax is added on top.
- **Its door check-ins** in the app, like **2 door check-ins per week**. This is how many times your membership code can be scanned at the door in each day, week, or month.

# Finding a membership

Memberships are listed on a host's page, in the **Memberships** section.

- **In the app:** open a host's page and scroll down to **Memberships**.
- **On the website:** open a host's page on jambo.app and look for **Memberships** under the host's details.

If a host doesn't have a **Memberships** section, they don't offer one yet.

# Becoming a member

You need a Jambo account to join. On the website, you'll be asked to log in first.

## In the app

1. On the host's page, tap **Become a member** on the membership you want
2. Under **Payment**, pick a saved card, or tap **Add a card** (or **Add a new card**) to add one
3. Under **Billing ZIP code**, enter your 5-digit ZIP code. It's used to calculate sales tax.
4. Tap **Subscribe**. The button shows the monthly price.

You'll see **You're a member!** once your first payment goes through. From there, tap **Show membership code** to pull up your code, or **Done** to close.

## On the website

1. On the host's page, click **Become a member** on the membership you want
2. Under **Payment**, pick a saved card, or click **Add a new card** and enter your card details
3. Click **Subscribe**

Once it's done, the membership card on the host's page shows **You're a member**.

:::hint{type="info"}
Your card is saved to your account, so you can use it again for tickets and other memberships. See the **Payment methods and purchase history** guide.
:::

### If subscribing doesn't work

- **You already have this membership. Check My Memberships for its status.**: you can only have one of each membership at a time.
- **We need a billing ZIP code to calculate sales tax.**: enter your ZIP code and try again.
- **This membership is no longer available.**: the host has stopped offering it.
- **This host can't accept memberships right now. Try again later.**: the host's account isn't ready to receive payments yet.

If your bank declines the card or needs extra verification, you'll see a message about it. Try again, or use a different card.

# Billing

- **You're charged right away** when you subscribe, for your first month.
- **Your membership renews monthly** after that, on the date shown as **Renews** in My Memberships. Your card is charged automatically each time.
- **Sales tax** is added to the price, based on your billing ZIP code.
- **Your price is locked in.** If the host changes the price later, you keep paying the price you signed up at.

# Checking in at the door

Your membership comes with a QR code that staff scan at the door.

1. In the app, open **My Memberships** (or the host's page)
2. Tap **Show membership code** on the membership
3. Show the code to staff at the door

Your membership code is only in the Jambo app, and it only works while your membership is **Active**.

Each scan uses one of your door check-ins. The card under your code shows your allowance, like **2 door check-ins per week**. The count starts over at the beginning of each new day, week, or month, depending on the membership. When you've used them all, the scanner shows **No scans left** until the next one starts.

A membership is honored at the places the host chose, which may include more than one location. If staff see **Not honored here**, your membership doesn't cover that door.

# Claiming free tickets

Some memberships include free tickets to the host's events. When you open an event your membership covers, you'll see a **Free with your membership** card on the event page.

1. Open the event in the app or on jambo.app
2. Tap **Use my membership** (or **Claim** next to the ticket you want, if your membership covers more than one)
3. You'll see **Ticket claimed with your membership.** The ticket is now in your tickets, just like one you bought.

On the website, the card says **You have a \[membership] membership** and lets you claim one ticket at a time.

Things to know:

- **One free ticket per ticket type.** Each membership can claim one free ticket for each ticket type it covers. More tickets of that type have to be bought as usual. If you've already claimed it, you'll see **You've already claimed your free ticket for this.**
- **Free tickets don't use up door check-ins.** Claiming a ticket is separate from your door check-in allowance.
- **Tickets have to be available.** If the ticket type is sold out or not on sale, you can't claim it. You'll see **Those tickets just ran out.** if they sell out while you're claiming.
- **Your membership has to be active.** If it isn't, you'll see **Your membership isn't active right now.**
- At the door, a claimed ticket is scanned like any other ticket. See the **Your tickets** guide.

If you don't see the card on an event, your membership doesn't include free tickets for it.

# My Memberships

All of your memberships are listed in one place:

- **In the app:** go to your profile, tap the gear icon, and tap **My Memberships** under **Memberships**.
- **On the website:** click your profile picture in the top right and choose **My Memberships**.

Each membership shows its monthly price, its door check-ins, a status, and when it renews or ends:

- **Active**: your membership is working. Tap **Show membership code** to check in.
- **Past due**: your last payment didn't go through. Your code and free tickets won't work while it's past due.
- **Incomplete**: your first payment didn't go through, so the membership never started.
- **Canceled**: the membership has ended.

# Canceling a membership

You can cancel any time. Your membership stays active until the end of the month you've already paid for, then it doesn't renew.

## In the app

1. Open **My Memberships**
2. Tap **Cancel membership** on the membership
3. Tap **Cancel It** to confirm

You'll see **Your membership will not renew.**, and the membership shows **Ends** with the date your benefits stop.

## On the website

1. Open **My Memberships**
2. Click **Cancel membership**
3. Click **Cancel membership** again to confirm

The membership then shows **Cancels on** with the date.

:::hint{type="warning"}
Canceling doesn't refund the month you're in. You keep your door check-ins and free tickets until the end date.

# Frequently asked questions

:::ExpandableHeading
## Where are my membership charges?

Membership charges and tickets you claim with a membership don't show up in **Purchase History** yet. Your bank or card statement shows each monthly charge. To see when you'll be charged next, check the **Renews** date in **My Memberships**.

Tickets you claim are still in your tickets as usual.
:::

:::ExpandableHeading
## I canceled by mistake. Can I undo it?

Not yet. Once you cancel, the membership can't be restarted before it ends. You keep your benefits until the end date, and after it ends you can join again from the host's page.
:::

:::ExpandableHeading
## Can I get a refund for a membership charge?

Refunds for membership charges aren't available in the app or on the website. If you think you were charged by mistake, email [support@jambo.app](mailto\:support@jambo.app).
:::

:::ExpandableHeading
## My first payment was declined. How do I try again?

If your first payment doesn't go through, the membership shows as **Incomplete** and never starts. You won't be charged for it.

You can't subscribe to the same membership again right away. The incomplete membership clears on its own within a day, and then you can subscribe again with a different card.
:::

:::ExpandableHeading
## A renewal payment failed. What happens?

Jambo doesn't notify you when a renewal payment fails, so if your code stops working, check **My Memberships**. A membership whose payment didn't go through shows **Past due**, and your code and free tickets won't work while it's past due.

There's currently no way to switch the card on an existing membership. If your card has expired or been replaced, email [support@jambo.app](mailto\:support@jambo.app).
:::

:::ExpandableHeading
## Can the host cancel my membership?

Yes. A host can cancel a member's membership. Like when you cancel, it stays active until the end of the month you've already paid for, then it doesn't renew.
